Who we are
NextApex stands for driving precision, technical versatility, and authentic communication. Founded by Flávio Serra – the expert with over 20 years of experience, first as an automotive journalist, later as an instructor, test driver, and event professional.
What sets him apart: a sharp instinct for brands, content, and people – combined with real multilingual fluency and international experience on the road, on set, and on the track.
1st word:
car
"My parents were starting to worry that I hadn’t spoken my first word yet – until it finally came: carro, the Portuguese word for car. Looking back, it was a sign of things to come. Sketching cars soon followed, and my first solo drive came at nine, behind the wheel of my mum’s Mini. From that moment on, the passion for cars, driving, and being on the move became part of who I am – and it’s still what drives me today."
1st job:
Test Driver
"In June 2000, I joined the test drive team at Motorpress Lisboa – driving new models, covering international events, and even taking part in races. Since moving to Germany in 2013, I’ve continued creating automotive content, conducted test drives for manufacturers and suppliers, and collaborated on a wide range of automotive events. In 2022, I added a new chapter by becoming a certified BMW Driving Instructor."
1st racetrack: Estoril
"The first BMW Instructor certification in 2022 marked an important milestone – and confirmed a journey that had begun 20 years earlier, with co-drives for readers in Estoril, the same circuit where Ayrton Senna claimed his first Grand Prix victory. Then came Portimão, where I had the chance to introduce drivers from around the world to that stunning racetrack in southern Portugal."

"Before founding NextApex, I worked in automotive journalism, testing, and media productions – a hands-on foundation that shaped my approach. In Germany, I’ve collaborated closely with car manufacturers and agencies: from managing logistics and guest experience at events to leading scenic drives and safety-focused driver trainings that never lose sight of the joy of driving. The name NextApex may be new, but it’s built on years of real-world experience."
